Helly Hansen is a 140-year-old clothing and sporting equipment company founded way back in 1877. The company is Norwegian and is a subsidiary of the Canadian company Canadian Tire. Helly Hansen is currently headquartered in Oslo, but it only moved there after leaving its previous headquarters in Moss, Norway. This move wasn't a small deal, as the company had been headquartered in Moss Norway since its founding in 1877.
While Helly Hansen may have had a relatively stable Headquarters for most of its history, it hasn't had relatively stable owners by any means. In 1955, the company was owned by Orkla, a Norwegian conglomerate. That year, Orkla sold a 50% stake in the company to Resource Group International, which later merged with Aker a year later.
Two years later, Investcorp bought Aker's stake and about 20% of Orkla's stake, giving it a 70% stake in the business. In 2006, Investcorp sold its interest in Helly Hansen to Altor Equity Partners, and six years later, Altor sold their 75% stake to Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan. In 2015, the pension plan increased its stake in the business, buying all of Altor's stocks in the business. In 2018, the Pension plan decided to sell the whole business to Canadian Tire, a Canadian retail business, for near a billion Canadian dollars.
